"OK WE'RE COMING - SO WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR???"  by Karen

People have been asking me what am I wearing to the Sailors' Ball this year, given the Bon Voyage theme.  As you may know, we are taking a step back to celebrate all of the past balls - many with fun themes and opportunities for costumes and dress.  I've listed them all to give you some ideas...  Some of you may have costumes you've worn before - which would be great!  Some may want to come in cruise ship gear (remember that TV show from years ago - "The Love Boat"?).  Some of us are talking about dressing up in a theme that we didn't have but always wanted to produce... (Maybe Popeye??).   So put on your imagination and come as any character you like!  It should be fun!  CLICK HERE for the list!

SAILORS' BALL MISSION

The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center’s annual Sailors' Ball is a volunteer-led community outreach event.  The Sailors' Ball raises awareness and funding for programs and scholarships to enable Milwaukee area at-risk or economically disadvantaged youth and also children and adults with disabilities to experience, explore and learn from the joys and challenges of sailing and Lake Michigan.

SAILORS' BALL GOALS
In order to achieve success, The Sailors' Ball has the following goals:

·        To welcome a diverse group of community members, boaters and generous friends from southeastern Wisconsin and beyond who share a love of sailing, boating, having fun and supporting great community programs and who appreciate and want to share the great natural resource of Lake Michigan.

·        To deliver a uniquely enjoyable theme-oriented evening of food, auctions, raffle prizes and entertainment and generating fun through costumed and theme-casual dress, creative décor and other interesting diversions to ensure that guests have a good time.

·        To recognize and honor individuals who represent the spirit of sailing and/or contributions to the Lakefront.

·        Recruitment of a cadre of enthusiastic volunteers and generous sponsors who incorporate their collective skills, resources and passions to deliver an evening of fun, fundraising and fellowship.

Sailors' Ball 2011 - Party Animals Support MCSC Programs

Wild costumes, roaming animals, hot bidding on great auction items, great food and entertaining programming were the hallmarks of the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center's annual fundraiser - the Sailor's Ball.  Every year this very important event raises funds for MCSC programs and scholarships designed to reach out to disadvantaged youth, at-risk teens and handicapped / disabled members of our community.  The Noah's Ark theme helped set the tone for everyone - and revealed some surprises, including an appearance from Noah himself!  Many thanks to our generous guests - including Noah Gold table contributors and  Admiral's Club members, event sponsors and volunteers for a very successful evening.

2010 SAILORS' BALL:  ESCAPE TO PUERTO RICO

The 16th annual Sailors' Ball was held on Saturday March 6th.  It may have been dreary and wet outside, but inside the Italian Community Center everyone was enjoying the Latin beat and Caribbean-infused sunshine of Puerto Rico.  The décor, food, music and auction items made for a very memorable evening for everyone in attendance.  Thank you to all of our attendees, sponsors, donors, staff members and committee members.  All of your hard work and dedication to the Sailing Center helped to make the 2010 Sailors' Ball a successful event. The money raised by the Sailors Ball is used to fund our youth and handicapped sailing programs.  These are vital programs for the people of Milwaukee.  These programs help many individuals access Lake Michigan and enjoy the sport of sailing.  Without the sailing Center and our programs, this wouldn’t be possible.Plan on joining us on February 26, 2011 for the next Sailors' Ball.  If you would like to help out with the Sailors' Ball contact MCSC at info@sailingcenter.org.
